Femicide in in 2021: the trial of Coralie’s alleged murderer opens this Monday before the assizes

Three years after the death of Coralie, a 30-year-old woman from , the trial for her murder opens on September 23 before the Assize Court. During three days of hearings, her 35-year-old partner will be in the dock. Indicted for “murder of a spouse”, he is accused of stabbing and slitting his partner’s throat.

Murder admitted by suspect

The facts date back to May 11, 2021, on the third floor of a building on Rue de Courlancy in Reims. That day, the employer of the nursing assistant from Reims was worried when the young woman did not return from her lunch break. He then raised the alarm and the police went to the couple’s home, where they discovered Coralie’s lifeless body. The suspect is locked in bathroom after stabbing himself fifteen times.

Hospitalized and placed in police custody, the thirty-year-old first explained that he and his partner had been victims of an assault. A version contradicted by the first elements of the investigation. On May 19, eight days after the tragedy, the man was placed in pretrial detention. To date, he is still incarcerated at the -Maxéville remand center. Finally, the accused admitted to being the author of the murder of his partner.

The investigation later revealed that the victim had not filed any report or complaint against her partner. However, she had confided to her relatives that he had tendency to drink and become violent. She had decided to leave him after two years of relationship.

Three days of hearings

During three days of hearing, experts will take turns at the bar: forensic doctors, psychologists, etc. The victim’s relatives will also be heard. They will be 13 on the bench of the civil parties : his family and loved ones. Indicted for “murder of a spouse”, the accused faces life imprisonment.
