The $1 million Powerball ticket sold in New Jersey for Wednesday’s lottery drawing was purchased at a small grocery store in Newark, lottery officials said.
The lucky Powerball winner made the purchase at Variedades Ecualatinas on Ferry Street in the Ironbound section of the state’s largest city. The ticket matched five numbers but not the Powerball and was the only second-prize ticket bought in the country for last night’s drawing.
Wednesday’s winning numbers were: 1, 11, 22, 47 and 68. The Powerball drawn was 7 with a Power Play of 4X.
No one in the nation hit Wednesday’s $176 million jackpot, pushing the top prize for the next drawing on Saturday to $195 million with a cash option of $99.1 million. There were also no $50,000, third-prize tickets sold in New Jersey.
The odds of hitting the Powerball jackpot are 292,201,388 to 1. A player who buys a $2 ticket has about a 1 in 11,688,053 chance to match five numbers and win at least $1 million, while the odds are 913,129 to 1 to win a third prize of at least $50,000.
Powerball drawings are held each Monday, Wednesday and Saturday in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot is worth $47 million with a cash option of $23.9 million.
