Deadpool & Wolverine: who is Cassandra Nova?

Deadpool & Wolverine: who is Cassandra Nova?
Descriptive text here

You have, no doubt, thrown yourself, like many, at the brand new trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, the Marvel cinema event of 2024 (the only MCU film to be released this year). The opportunity to appreciate the presence of Hugh Jackmanfor the first time in his iconic costume, which the video intends to highlight after a first glimpse focused more on his comrade Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds). But he is not the only one to reveal himself before our eyes.

Indeed, we can see the actress in detail Emma Corrin (young Diana in the series The Crown) as the main antagonist of the film. And if its appearance – and the presence of a teleportation portal – could have led us to think that it was a variant of the Ancient (Dr. Strange), it is not so. Although his name is not mentioned in the trailer, there is no longer any doubt as to his identity, the character comes from the X-Men universe. It is Cassandra Nova. But who is she?

Cassandra Nova is a relatively recent character in the X-Men mythology since her first appearance in the comics dates from May 2001 under the pen and pencil of Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. She is the twin sister of Charles Xavier.

Omega Level Threat

In their mother’s womb, Charles, whose powers were already awakening, sensed that Cassandra was going to be a great threat as “Mummudraï”, a bodyless one, and made her disappear. Except that the stillborn baby survived as chaotic cellular matter. Years later, she succeeded in copying Xavier’s DNA in order to create a body resembling him as well as his mutant genome, thus obtaining his powers. Once her existence was revealed to Charles and the other X-Men, she became one of their greatest and dangerous adversaries.

Power-wise, if the trailer shows us her telekinetic ability to manipulate Wolverine’s body, she has much more. Possessing Xavier’s genome, she has great telepathic abilities and can therefore manipulate minds to protect herself, create illusions, erase memories, detect surrounding thoughts and other joys.

With her DNA copying abilities, she was able to become more and more powerful and can notably phase through matter and has a strong regenerative factor.

We do not yet know how many of his powers will be retained in Deadpool & Wolverine, but there won’t be too many of them to defeat her. And when we think about Cassandra Nova’s origin, we can start to speculate that Patrick Stewart (or James McAvoy) could make a small appearance as Professor X.

Answer next July 24 at the cinema!
