‘He’s still a fan’ – Slovan Bratislava boss can’t wait to unleash Rangers cult hero son on Celtic in Champions League

SLOVAN BRATISLAVA boss Vladimir Weiss hopes his son will enjoy another glory evening in Glasgow tomorrow night.

Vladimir Jr, set to line up for the Slovaks at Parkhead, had a stint on loan to Rangers from Manchester City back in 2011.

Slovan coach Weiss said: “All our lives we’ve been talking about Celtic and Rangers.

“My son played for Rangers, he’s still a fan of the club and will face Celtic.

“When he was here at Rangers, they won two trophies, so he has the best memories.

“And the derby with Celtic is the best there is, it’s the top.”

Weiss Sr, who was in charge of Artmedia Bratislava when they thrashed Gordon Strachan’s Celtic 5-0 in the Champions League in 2005, insists that historic win will mean nothing tomorrow evening.

He added: “I have some lovely memories of 2005. No one will take them away from me but it was a long time ago.

“Today’s Celtic played with a different style to the team of 19 years ago.

“When I joined Slovan, I took it upon myself as a responsibility to prove we could get to the main stage of the Champions League.

“I’m happy we did that so quickly.”

Meanwhile, Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers insists the club is more prepared than ever for the Champions League.

After a flurry of summer signings, he believes his team are now ready to make a real impact.

He said: “There’s absolutely no doubt, this feels like the most ready I’ve been as a Celtic manager coming into a Champions League campaign.

“Naturally because of the qualification phase and the doubt around all of that and trying to get players in later on on the back of that.

“Last season coming in, trying to find out about players and managing them through that and then seeing them in the competition.

“But having had a year under my belt back here and seeing all the players and being able to improve a lot of the areas that I want, there’s still areas that we want to improve in, but certainly the readiness is a great word.

“That feeling of arriving at this first game will be the best place that probably I’ve been in since I’ve been here.”
