Algeria: Tebboune begins his second term with a political initiative

In Algeria, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune officially began his second term after taking the oath on Tuesday, September 17 at the Palais des Nations in Algiers.

Mr. Tebboune, who was re-elected in the presidential elections of September 7, with 84.3% of the vote, promised economic prosperity and announced the launch of a political dialogue with the nation’s vital forces.

The RCD and the PT welcomed this initiative, but the two opposition parties set preconditions such as the “release of prisoners of conscience” and “the opening of the media field.”

Zoheir Rouis, vice-president of Jil Jadid, reacted on X: “President Tebboune made a commitment, before the Nation, to open a national dialogue to consecrate true democracy.

This can only succeed if the verified intention is to engage in it in a serious, sincere and resolute manner, and with clear and shared objectives.”

The FFS and the MSP, whose two respective leaders Youcef Aouchiche and Abdelaali Hassani, unsuccessful candidates in the presidential election of September 7, were received by the re-elected president just after the swearing-in ceremony.

Morocco accused of torturing migrants

Hezbollah accused Israel of booby-trapping 5,000 pagers, the crude devices that allow people to communicate via text messages. They are used by Hezbollah elements to avoid communicating with cell phones whose communications are easy for Israel to intercept.

According to the New York Times, Israel placed explosive charges on the booby-trapped pagers that were imported from Taiwan.
