For one, it’s done: as announced Monday by France Bleu Gironde, the 29-year-old central defender Djibril Diaw has signed up and will be in training this Tuesday morning. The Senegalese international (1 selection in 2019), who spent time in France with Caen and Angers (with whom he played a match in L1) but also the Polish and Lithuanian elite, is coming off a full season at Laval where he was a starter (32 matches played) after scoring the goal to keep the Mayenne club in the last minute of the 2022-2023 season. Under contract with the Ukrainian club Lviv, he benefits from the geopolitical situation which means that UEFA authorizes the suspension of contracts of foreign players in Ukraine.
Another player arrives this Tuesday at Haillan to sign a two-year contract: the former English international and centre-forward Andy Carroll (9 caps from 2010 to 2012), 35 years old. The former Liverpool and Newcastle star, who played 248 Premier League matches (54 goals) and 133 Championship matches (English D2, 32 goals) during his career, has been playing for Amiens in L2 since last season. He played 28 matches there (4 goals, one assist) but was on the bench since the start of the season (4 substitute appearances). In Picardy, his state of mind was praised and he will have to bring his 1.93 m to bear to fix the Ligue 2 defences.
