Madridistas are eagerly awaiting the jersey of the brand new signing they have been dreaming of for seven years. The name of Kylian Mbappé, who will be presented on July 16 at the Bernabéu, cannot yet be printed on the official jersey even though he is already part of the first team players.
Just go to the Real website and try to personalize a jersey with the Frenchman’s name to come across the following message: “This player’s name and number are not available for personalization at this time. Stay tuned for updates.”
You can’t put Mbappé… nor the multiple variants such as Kylian Mbappé, K. Mbappé, K-Mbappé, Kylian, Mbàppe… and so on up to 276 possible combinations, as Marca points out. All the changing letters, accents, capitals and everything you can imagine with the first and last name of the new Madrid star.
In fact, the Madrid club simply wants to wait for the presentation of its new Galactico, the day when its jersey number will be revealed (which will most likely be 9) before launching sales.
What you need to know is that Mbappé’s name is not the only one that cannot be screen printed on the team’s official white jersey. In fact, there is a very long list of names, 320 to be precise, that are prohibited from being printed… we are talking about former players of the club. In this case, the message that appears is different: “Sorry! Our customization policy does not allow the use of this name”.
Here are some of the names that cannot be flocked via the webshop. Even the name of Toni Kroos, whose contract ended yesterday at midnight, is excluded.
