In an interview with HLN De Bruyne initially stressed that he sees his short-term future at City. “I’ve read a lot of headlines, but I haven’t spoken to anyone,” said the Belgian international in response to speculation about a move this summer. “I hope I can carry on playing like this for a few more years. Everyone knows that I still have a year left on my contract at City. And that I haven’t spoken to anyone yet.”

He assumes that there will be talks with City in the next few months about a possible contract extension. “If not, then I’ll have to look for something else. But it’s hard to say what will happen. In any case, my summer will be very quiet, I’ll enjoy my vacation. And then I’ll get back to City.”

Among other things, there is speculation about whether De Bruyne, like Cristiano Ronaldo or Karim Benzema, could move to Saudi Arabia at the end of his career. The Belgian has not ruled this out for the medium term. He explained the possible motives behind this: “Look, I have more than enough money. I am aware of that. If I am offered a crazy amount later, then that is not for me. That would all be for my family, my friends, my children, my grandchildren, my children’s neighbors.”
