LEGISLATIVE 2024. RN and left tied, Edwige Diaz elected in the first round, what to remember from this first round in Gironde

In Gironde, the first round of the legislative elections shows, as elsewhere, a surge of the National Rally. Edwige Diaz was elected in the first round. In the Bordeaux metropolis, on the other hand, the left is holding out. Find the key information from this first round.

70.75% of them went to the polls this Sunday, June 30, in Gironde. This is 20 points more than in 2022, which allowed the formation of numerous triangulars in the department. The three majority groups, New Popular Front, Ensemble and National Rally, have seen their score change significantly in two years.

Edwige Diaz elected in the first round, the National Rally in historic breakthrough

She is the only MP from Nouvelle-Aquitaine to have done so. Edwige Diaz, National Rally candidate and outgoing MP for the 11th constituency, was re-elected in the first round with 53.33% of the vote. A historic score for the spokesperson for the National Rally. JI would like to thank our voters who turned out massively for the first round of this election.she said before calling for a new mobilization on July 7.They say that in the first round, we choose and in the second, we discard. In the second round, voters will have the choice between the National Rally or the leap into chaos, with Mélenchon as prime minister.”

In the department, the breakthrough of Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella’s party is clear. Of the twelve constituencies that make up the Gironde, it came out on top in half. In the Médoc, Grégoire de Fournas thus doubled his results from 2022, with 42.32% of the vote.

The progress of the National Rally can also be seen in the 8th constituency, in the Arcachon Basin, which places Laurent Lamara in the lead, ahead of the outgoing MP Sophie Panonacle (Ensemble). “I come first in a certain number of municipalities and in second position with very little difference in votes. I hope that the Republican mobilization of the second round will be there”says Sophie Panonacle.

In the 12th constituency of Entre-deux-Mers as in the 9th of Sud-Gironde, Jordan Bardella’s party came out on top in the first round. In 2022, no RN candidate had managed to qualify for the second round.

The Bordeaux left is resisting

At the heart of the navy blue wave, the Bordeaux metropolis displays a pink vote, the color of the New Popular Front. “I am the mayor of a large city that is resisting the pressure of the RN. It is contained in third position. I am a mayor strengthened by these legislative elections”indicates Pierre Hurmic, the mayor of Bordeaux.

In the fourth constituency, while the National Rally comes in second, the outgoing MP Alain David (PS-NFP) maintains his lead. The same scenario in the 6th constituency, around Mérignac, as well as the 7th (Gradignan, Pessac, etc.), which places the candidates of the New Popular Front in the lead.

This support for the left is particularly evident in the 3rd constituency. Loïc Prud’homme outgoing deputy (LFI-NFP), qualifies for the second round with 49.83% of the votes. He only needed 0.17% to be elected in the first round.
We are going to contest second rounds in many constituencies. We must remain very cautious about projections in terms of number of seats. However, the first lesson from these figures is the terrible failure of Macronie which is collapsing at the level of this election. found the LFI-NFP candidate.

Emmanuel Macron has allowed the accumulation, layer after layer, of the breeding ground that makes up the National Rally’s score.

Loïc Prud’homme

Candidate for the 3rd constituency, outgoing LFI deputy

Nicolas Thierry also, in the 2nd constituency, narrowly missed being elected in a single round. The EELV candidate of the New Popular Front qualified with 49.45% of the vote. In this constituency of central Bordeaux, the second round will take place without the National Rally. It is the only one in the department. “The candidate from Bordeaux center is an environmentalist and comes out on top. This is an excellent result, because it could have been sanctioned by a form of weariness on the part of the municipal majority”says Pierre Hurmic.

Beyond the metropolis, in the Médoc in particular, Pascale Got held her own against Grégoire de Fournas with 31.79% of the vote. The RN candidate posted a score of 42.32%.

Left and far right, only 66 votes apart

If on the maps, blue covers half of the constituencies, the figures suggest another trend. With the presidential majority almost ousted from all constituencies, a duel is being played out between the far right and the left, separated by only 66 votes at the department level.

In the department, the New Popular Front collected 32.93% of the votes (268,161 votes), while the National Rally and its allies posted a score of 32.92% of the ballots (268,095 votes). In almost all constituencies, the triangulars could therefore have real consequences in the second round, with the effect of vote carryover.

Florent Boudié, Thomas Cazenave and the majority in danger

Florent Boudié is seeking his fourth term as deputy this year. Elected since 2014, the deputy for Libournais (10th constituency) saw, this Sunday, the candidate of the National Rally, Sandrine Chadourne, take first place with 43.8%.

For the second round, his opponent from the New Popular Front, who came in 3rd position, Pascal Bourgois (EELV) has already announced his withdrawal, and the call to vote for the majority candidate. “I thank Pascal Bourgois for his strong gesture, for all of us. We must fight against the National Rally, it is a political obligation”, confided Florent Boudié.

The National Rally is at a high level in our department, but it remains a minority and we must show this.

In Gironde, Thomas Cazenave must therefore feel very alone. No other representative of Macronie managed to qualify at the top of this first round, in the department. In Bordeaux North, where the candidate has been elected since 2022, he arrives with 38.31% of the votes, followed by Céline Papin who obtains 34.23% of the votes. However, the candidate’s position is far from comfortable: in a triangular battle against Bruno Paluteau (RN), the two candidates will have to share the voters of the center and the left, at the risk of losing this second round.
