The norovirus has broken out in Torri del Benaco on the eastern shore of Lake Garda. In recent days, hundreds of people have been infected with Vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and feverthe typical norovirus symptoms, to the hospital in Peschiera del Garda. This is reported by several Italian media. It is not yet known whether foreign tourists are also affected. The municipality issued a regulationdie also for tourists gilt.
Do not use tap water
According to initial information, Drinking water problems led to this norovirus outbreak. The municipality of Torri del Benaco therefore issued a decree: Use of tap water is taboo until further notice. Aid workers have begun distributing water bottles to residents. Tourists are advised to stock up on bottled water at the supermarket.
According to media reports, the rise in Lake Garda could have something to do with the norovirus. After heavy rainfall, the water level is significantly higher than usual at this time of year. The sewage system may be overloaded.
