We’re not going to hide it. It is always with a little impatience that we await the new issue of Cap Caval. The magazine appears twice a year and there is a long time between the two publications. Why do we love it? The reasons are multiple. Firstly because it contains completely new stories. And this new number, the 52nd, is no exception. Thanks to Serge Duigou, we discover the story of a popular revolt which shook Pont-l’Abbé in the winter of 1847. This “hunger riot”, launched by the working classes with women and tailors, ” is one of the hottest episodes in the history of Pont-l’Abbé”, comments the historian who has found the identity of all the protagonists as well as a rich iconography.

The song “Tri Martolod Yaouank” would have Bigouden roots

Another curiosity, Claude Péron tells the genesis of the legendary song “Tri Martolod Yaouank”. World famous, it was sung by Stivell and so many others, but do we really know its origin? The retired schoolteacher supposes that it would have a very strong link with the Bigouden country and particularly the port of Léchiagat.

Less light but just as exciting, Annick Le Douget returns to a news item that marked the Haut pays bigouden. In August 1933, an industrialist from Plozévet killed his successor and was acquitted. The former clerk deciphers this affair, revealing the state of mind and morals of the time.

This new issue also gives pride of place to the environment with a full article on the ornithological wealth of the Pays Bigouden. “A paradise for birds” is written by Olivier Duigou.

Also not to be missed, a tribute to the soldier from Combrit, Armand L’Helgouarc’h, a close-up on the queens of the interwar period in Pays Bigouden, the behind the scenes of Jacques Godin’s new exhibition at the Triskell and a portrait of the embroiderer Marie Le Stume from Plonéour-Lanvern. Truly, a very beautiful issue (published in 1,200 copies and on sale for €9 in bookstores, newsagents and in the various points of sale in Pays Bigouden).

To note

A presentation of the Cap Caval magazine, in the presence of the authors, is organized on Saturday June 29, at 4:30 p.m., at the Ti ar Barrez room in Combrit in partnership with the Mein ha Dour association. Open to everyone. Free.
