Renée was the daughter of the famous Mother Richard and had the same first name. When her mother died, Renée courageously continued to perpetuate the name that had become their trademark. For several years, she had been battling illness, but it finally had the last word. Renée died at the age of 74.
Thanks to Paul Bocuse, the first chef to put the famous Saint-Marcellin on the map, Renée Richard Mère had, over the years, become an essential figure at Halles Paul-Bocuse. Her daughter, Renée, was destined to become a notary clerk and pursue a notarial career. At the end of her studies, Renée, at her mother's request, agrees to come and help her for a few days at the store. It was only supposed to be for a short time, Renée ultimately stayed all her life.
She never regretted the notary
Renée will learn to select the best producers in the region, to refine the products in the cellars on the banks of the Saône and more especially Saint-Marcellin, this cheese for which her mother fell in love at first sight.
Having become a true professional, she confided that she never regretted the notary profession and considered herself fully satisfied by the compliments of her loyal clients.
For everyone, she had a kind word, asked for news of family members, gave advice, never hesitating to participate in a charitable action, never refusing his presence whenever she could. Renée had “a heart like that”, her smile, her simplicity are already missing in the alleys of Les Halles.
Proudly wearing her apron, Renée was at ease in all circumstances, in all receptions and of course those where her cheeses were the star.
-In the salons of the Town Hall, as in those of the Prefecture, at the Regional Hall, at the Groupama Stadium or at the Matmut Stadium, and even on this day when, in its stand at Les Halles, it had the honor of receive the Prince of Wales who became King Charles III or even participate in the dinner in honor of. Chinese President Xi Jinping. And of course, there was the meal of the great chefs at the Élysée, those at the Lyon city hall and at the Rhône Prefecture.
Very close to his mother
Renée was viscerally attached to Lyon. Very close to her mother, she had suffered greatly from her disappearance. Little by little, she had asserted her own personality made of competence, diligent work (she arrived at 6 o'clock every morning at Les Halles), kindness, gentleness. We did not say about her as for her mother “La Mère Richard”, we simply said Renée!
For several weeks, tired from her treatment, she hardly left the house. Her friends tried to maintain contact, but true to form, she left quietly, too quietly.
Farewell dear Renée, you will remain a significant figure in Lyon life, in gastronomy, you will above all remain the smile of the Halles.
