Urban violence, leading to damage to public buildings, broke out during the night of Saturday to Sunday January 19 in Mâcon, said the prefecture of Saône-et-Loire. The violence took place in the sensitive Saugeraies district. One person was arrested, it was added without further details.
And “first assessment shows three degraded public buildings” as well as “three police vehicles damaged”announces the prefecture in a press release. In addition, seven light vehicles were set on fire, as well as an excavator and trash cans.
“This violence took place against a backdrop of drug trafficking”specified the prefecture, citing the words of the prefect of Saône-et-Loire, Yves Séguy, who visited the site on Sunday morning. The Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, announced Sunday on BFM-TV the sending “additional law enforcement” in Macon.
Calm returned on Sunday at 5 a.m. and the prefect lifted the operational center which had been activated at 2 a.m. “in order to follow the evolution of the situation in the presence of the mayor of Mâcon and representatives of the services concerned”.
The prefect issued several orders from Sunday 8 a.m. to Tuesday 11 p.m. to “the ban on the possession and transport of weapons, all categories combined, ammunition and objects which could constitute a weapon concerning the municipalities of Mâcon, Sancé and Charnay”. He requested reinforcements from mobile security forces for the coming night.
