Former head of government Dominique de Villepin said he could not imagine “not participating” in the political fight, in this case the next presidential election in 2027.
A new candidate for 2027? Former Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin lets his ambitions shine through in an interview with Mediapart posted online on Saturday January 18, refusing to “not be at the forefront” to lead “the fight”.
“We are facing a historic shock which has very few precedents,” declared the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, when asked about the role he intends to play in the next presidential election. Before launching: “I cannot not participate in this fight. I cannot not be at the forefront”.
“The issue is not whether in the end you are a candidate”
However, “the issue is not whether in the end you are a candidate for an election,” he temporizes. “The challenge is to know if your words, at a given moment, can lead the political debate to evolve, lead the political scene to evolve, lead citizens to look differently at political actors.”
