To make you sick? Without Vrancken, Ghent only woke up after Kums came on against Charleroi

KAA Gent and Sporting Charleroi were allowed to open matchday 22 in the Jupiler Pro League in the Planet Group Arena. It took the Buffalos an hour until Sven Kums, among others, arrived on the field to wake up. It wouldn’t yield more than one point.

At KAA Gent, Wouter Vrancken was ill, so Danijel Milicevic had to do the honors on the bench. He chose three new names between the lines: Samoise, Gerkens and Hjulsager. Gandelman, among others, had to start on the bench after the match in Dender.

We again got Andri Gudjohnsen at striker, but once again he could only confirm that the Buffaloes urgently need a new striker. What we saw from Ghent on the mat over an hour would also make you sick as a supporter.

In sickness and in health

Wouter Vrancken will probably have cursed a few times from the seat and may have already accelerated the search for a deep striker. Any advantage? Because he was not in the stadium, he did not have to make cracker calls and he could do it quietly from his own home.

The soup at half time was delicious and could at least warm the burger a bit, because that couldn’t really happen because of the football. Charleroi had taken the lead early in the match through a dry shot from Mbenza after Watanabe lost the ball.

Early lead Charleroi

A little later, goalkeeper Roef got away several times: first Heymans lobbed onto the roof of an empty goal, and after another loss of ball, a ball was aimed wide of another empty goal. A logical lead at halftime for the Zebras.

Only after a number of substitutions and after the hour did things finally come to fruition at Ghent. This initially mainly created pressure, but after an excellent tackle from Samoise and a dribble from Sonko, captain Kums was able to equalize just over fifteen minutes before the end.

Kums saves the point

The Buffaloes smelled blood and wanted to jump on and over in a foggy final phase. However, the pressure was not converted into a second goal, while Charleroi also came dangerously close to Davy Roef a few times during the transition.

In the final phase, Petris got the chance, but Roef saved again. However, no one was able to score, so the gap between the two teams remains four points in the standings and no one is really making any progress.
