After several days of consultations, Emmanuel Macron is preparing to announce the name of the next Prime Minister, Friday December 13. According to information from Le Parisien, the President of the Republic will continue his interviews in the morning.
Friday December 13, after having postponed the deadline the day before, Emmanuel Macron is preparing to appoint Michel Barnier's successor at Matignon. To do this, the President of the Republic received François Bayrou at 8:30 a.m. at the Élysée. As reported by Le Parisien, it is not yet certain whether this meeting aims to announce to the president of Modem his nomination to the post of Prime Minister or, conversely, to reveal to him the reasons for his non -appointment.
But the balance seems to tip towards the second option. Because François Bayrou left through a back door of the Élysée after 1h45 of an interview with Emmanuel Macron, reports BFMTV in particular. According to information from the channel, the interview was tense. Questioned at the end of the morning in front of his office, the president of MoDem and High Commissioner for Planning, refused to make any comment.
The suspense should, however, end in the coming minutes since the transfer of power between Michel Barnier and his successor has already been organized. According to information from CNews, it should take place in Matignon at the end of the morning. According to ministerial sources, members of the government were all invited to this event. A red carpet was also rolled out in the courtyard of the hotel at 57 rue de Varenne.
Even if he has not yet been appointed, François Bayrou does not seem to have unanimous support. During her appearance on CNews/Europe 1, Friday December 13, rebellious MP Manon Aubry described the president of Modem “the very incarnation of macronism”. “I refuse to let it be that we take the same ones and start again“, she stressed, specifying that there could only be one “Prime Minister from the New Popular Front” in order to carry out the flagship measures of the left, such as the repeal of the pension reform or the increase in the minimum wage.
“Some names are red lines”
Conversely, other political figures are ready to give François Bayrou a chance if he were to be appointed Prime Minister. This is particularly the case of the deputy for Oise and spokesperson for the National Rally, Philippe Ballard. “If this hypothesis is confirmed, we will give it a chance,” he assured, before continuing: “We don't have compulsive censorship like France Insoumise. Certain names, Roland Lescure for example, are red lines. He is an immigrationist, ultra-liberal. François Bayrou had the right words on certain analyzes of the situation.”
A Legion of Honor awarded this morning
Against all expectations, the President of the Republic presented a decoration, a Legion of Honor, at the end of the morning. Michel Barnier and Anne Hidalgo were notably present. The resigning Prime Minister sent his email of thanks to his team, satisfied with the “page” which was beginning to be written, and “collective work” accomplished, quotes BFMTV.
