11 million euros is the incredible legacy that was made to a town in Eure. The gentleman, who bequeathed this fortune to Thiberville, has the distinction of never having been there.
The story is like a Christmas story. In the heart of Normandy, Thiberville, in Eure, was surprised to receive a bequest of more than 11 million euros. Among the 1,800 inhabitants, the news is a dream. The benefactor had the distinction of having the same name as the town. He would never have set foot here but Roger Thiberville, 91, a Parisian meteorological engineer, had no heir. So, he wanted to leave his fortune to the village whose name he shared.
The legacy of 11 million euros represents five times the annual budget of the municipality. So obviously, the mayor is full of projects. “The creation of a public garden, the energy renovation of schools… I think we will be protected from tax increases for quite a few years”he explained. A stele in the name of the generous donor will be erected in the Thiberville cemetery, where his ashes will be placed according to his last wishes.
