Awaited for more than 3 years, the sequel to the most watched international series of all time on Netflix arrives on the platform in thirty days exactly!
Fans have already waited three years, but their patience will be rewarded in thirty days sharp. On December 26, Netflix will unveil season 2 of Squid Game, a direct sequel to the South Korean series which broke all records on the platform at the end of 2021. A third and final season has already been announced for next year.
The direct continuation of season 1
Squid Game sees people in heavy debt being contacted by a mysterious recruiter to take part in a series of children's games. The winner of the nine events will in fact be offered the sum of 45.6 billion won (or 32 million euros).
On site, however, the participants discover that the losers will be killed, and that only one of the 456 candidates will survive the nine games.
The first season ended with the victory of Seong Gi-Hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), aka participant number 456. As he prepared to start a new life in the United States, to reconnect with his daughter, the latter finally decided to stay in South Korea to dismantle the organization responsible for these deadly games.
Season 2 of Squid Game was therefore designed as a direct sequel to the first. In addition to Seong Gi-Hun, this new season will mark the return of Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon). This young police officer seeks to infiltrate the organization to find the trace of his older brother (Lee Byung-hun).
Which characters from season 1 will be returning?
We know that the latter is still alive, and that he is now hiding under the identity of the Masked Man (also called Frontman). This will also be present in season 2, in the same way as the recruiter, played by Gong Yoo. New characters will also be introduced in this new season.
The creator of the series Hwang Dong-hyeok has already confirmed that he has completed filming for season 3, expected on Netflix in 2025. This will be the last season of the program, but spin-offs could see the day in the near future. A remake project is currently under study, under the supervision of American director David Fincher.
The nine episodes of Squid Game season 2 can be found from December 26 exclusively on Netflix.
