GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A former producer for MrBeast is suing the online entrepreneur claiming she was not paid overtime.
Brittany Carter filed the lawsuit on Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District against MrBeastYouTube, LLC.
It claims that the Puyallup, Washington resident was hired as a producer and paid $10,000 a month.
It says Carter was hired in July 2022 and relocated to Greenville, signing an “Independent Contractor Services Agreement”.
Carter was provided with an apartment, and was told she needed to respond to calls and messages “any time of day on all days of the week.”
It says the woman worked an average of approximately 70 to 75 hours per week and was not exempt from overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act because she was not employed “in a bona fide executive, administrative or professional capacity.
The lawsuit says Carter was misclassified as an independent contractor to avoid paying her overtime.
Her lawyers are asking for a jury trial and that MrBeast pay her back overtime, including interest. The lawsuit does not say when or why Carter stopped working for MrBeast.
WITN this morning reached out to a publicist for MrBeast but have yet to hear anything back. Full Lawsuit:
In September, MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, was sued, claiming he failed to provide minimum wages, overtime pay, uninterrupted meal breaks, and rest time for competitors on his Amazon reality show “Beast Games”.
The five anonymous competitors also said that “limited sustenance” and “insufficient medical staffing” endangered their health.
The filing alleges that production staff created a “toxic” work environment for women who faced “sexual harassment” throughout the contest. Those sections are heavily redacted in an effort to comply with “confidentiality provisions” signed by the competitors, according to a press release from their lawyers.
