Motorists in Clare are being warned of “treacherous” driving conditions this morning following heavy snowfall overnight.
Clare, Limerick and Tipperary remain under a Status Orange snow and ice warning until midday today, meaning very difficult travelling conditions, poor visibility, travel disruption, disruption and delays to public transport, difficult conditions underfoot and animal welfare issues are all possibilities.
Gardaí say visibility has been very poor in West and North Clare particularly on local roads, as well as the N68 from Daragh to Kilrush and the N67 north of Lisdoonvarna.
There are reports of tree down on the Carron to Kinvara Road, near Michael Cusack GAA field and another tree down on Kildysart Road, and Clare County Fire Service has been notified, while Corkscrew Hill is impassable at the moment.
Clare County Council’s Winter Maintenance Crews have been deployed to salt and plough roads where required, and the local authority says “it’s an evolving situation and daylight and rising temperatures should improve driving conditions.”
Senior Engineer with Clare County Council, Cyril Feeney says conditions will be very challenging for all road users today.
