Cyberattack: a large distribution group targeted, “hundreds of thousands of customers” affected: News

A new large group reports a massive data theft this Tuesday, November 19. This retail giant indicates that the personal information of 500,000 of its customers has been stolen.

Hard blow for Auchan. The brand deplores a massive theft of data concerning 500,000 customers on Tuesday November 19. According to details confirmed by the group to franceinfo and detailed in a message to targeted consumers, “last name, first name, email address, postal address, telephone number, family composition if provided, date of birth, loyalty card number and amount of the loyalty kitty” customers holding a loyalty card were stolen via this cyberattack.

Phishing alert

However, the group ensures that bank details, passwords and pin codes are not part of the capture. “The incident was contained very quickly”also indicated Auchan, ensuring that “Additional security measures have been put in place”in order to secure the data. If this data does not immediately provide access to customers' bank accounts, Auchan invites you to “the greatest vigilance” regarding attempts to “phishing” – phishing attempts – and other scams that may follow. “Auchan never asks you (whether by email, SMS or telephone) to ask you to communicate your personal codes or identifiers in any way”further underlined the group in its message to consumers, notably cited by the site 01net. A complaint was also filed with the CNIL (National Commission for Information Technology and Liberties), in accordance with the law in force.

This cyberattack is in addition to the numerous other intrusions and data thefts suffered by large French companies in recent months: Picard, Intermarché, Truffaut, Boulanger, Cultura, and more recently the operator Free, have been targeted.
