Martín received his world champion trophy at the MotoGP gala

The 2024 season didn't quite end under the checkered flag in Barcelona for the riders, but a few hours later, with the traditional MotoGP awards gala. Usually organized in Valencia, the event, like the race, was moved to Barcelona, ​​after the serious floods which affected the area almost three weeks ago.

The ceremony was held at the National Art Museum of Catalonia on the Montjuïc mountain in Barcelona, ​​where the new MotoGP logo was also unveiled. The invited riders took out their best clothes from their wardrobes, culminating in the presentation of the world champion trophy to Jorge Martín, the first independent rider to be crowned in the MotoGP era, and as is customary, the installation of the plaque in his name by the Spaniard himself, to complete the trophy.

“It’s a career close to perfection that has come to an end”Martín said on stage. “I have achieved my life's goal and everything that comes in the future will just be a gift. I am very, very proud. I remember the first time I came to the gala I was just the winner of the Rookies Cup I was with Marc. [Márquez]Valentino [Rossi], [Jorge] Lorenzo. It was amazing to be with them, and now it's me. It’s fantastic and I’m very, very proud.”

Pecco Bagnaia, winner of the last two titles and second in the championship, and Marc Márquez, who completed the championship podium, were also present.

If this ceremony is naturally followed by some less public celebrations, in particular for Martín, it does not yet mark vacation time for the pilots. In MotoGP, they will be back on track on Tuesday for a very important test in preparation for the 2024 season, and we will already see several riders in their new teams, with transfers being numerous.
