Some of the brightest young NBA stars, including LaMelo Ball, have been in trouble in the last 24 hours and the league may have a hard time controlling them.
Firstly, Anthony Edwards broke the hearts of the Kings fans at Golden 1 Center on Friday night after turning it on the in clutch and spoiling De’Aaron Fox’s 60-point haul with a T-Wolves win.
With 3:15 left in the first period, Edwards was called for an offensive foul. Shortly afterwards TV cameras captured him directing the rude finger toward the stands as he walked towards his team’s bench.
Ant was fined $35,000 by the NBA for making an “obscene gesture on the court”. He finished the game with 36 points and had a big dunk highlight.
In his post-game locker room interview the obscenities kept coming.
“My coach told me I’ve been playing soft for 11/12 games,” and added, “So I told him yesterday, I was going to dunk on one of their a** so when I did it, I looked right at him.”
He then watched a clip of his dunk and told the media, “Hm, motherf**ker. Yeah, that felt good.”
Then, LaMelo Ball’s postgame interview after the Hornets win over the Bucks ruffled some feathers.
He was asked about his team’s defense on Giannis Antetokounmpo in the fourth quarter, to which he said, “We loaded up, no homo”
The NBA acted promptly and by the next day, Shams Charania reported that “The NBA has fined Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball $100,000 for offensive and derogatory comments in postgame interview on Saturday.”
LaMelo and Ant are two of the NBA’s biggest young stars, but are in some ways the opposite of game’s current stars like Giannis and LeBron, who have relatively clean reputations.
