Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol ill: at 47, the elected PS reveals his cancer

Since 2022, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol has been fighting health problems in the greatest secrecy. On Wednesday November 13, the mayor of announced in a press release that he was suffering from bladder cancer, reports BFMTV and Blue . As explained by the regional media, the member of the Socialist Party was diagnosed with a first tumor in early 2022 and then operated on in February of the same year. He then followed a first immunotherapy treatment and then underwent a new operation in April 2023. Despite a second immunotherapy protocol, the cancer recurred a second time, forcing him to have another operation in June 2024. Nicolas Mayer -Rossignol then explains that his third cycle of immunotherapy should end in a few days.

After the announcement of his illness, the mayor of Rouen quickly wanted to be reassuring. “I'm doing very well”, he says, adding that he is followed by a “great and very human team”. “I’m not going to resign, I’m doing well and I’m well looked after,” explains the elected PS. “The illness does not prevent me from being less present and engaged, it is even the opposite. It has also increased my commitment tenfold for fundamental reasons. These subjects are taboo and we need to talk about them more.” He then explains that his cancer has an environmental and not a genetic origin since the prevalence rate of this cancer is five times higher in Seine-Maritime than in the rest of France.

Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol: what do we know about his private life?

Throughout his illness, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol was able to count on the support of his family. Indeed, the politician is the father of two daughters aged 18 and 15. Very discreet about his private life, he nevertheless agreed to confide in Liberation in January 2023. He also explained that he was in a relationship and married with Aurélie, associate professor in plant biology and ecology. The couple met during their studies. Indeed, the PS member followed scientific studies in the field of life sciences. For the French daily, he did not hesitate to tell a little anecdote about his relationship. “Before the birth of their first child, they argued over a first name. If there was a boy, he wanted to call him 'Biréli', in homage to the gypsy guitarist, Biréli Lagrène”says the newspaper.
