Despite Calhanoglu's gem, Inter did not regain the lead in Serie A against Naples (1-1). Marcus Thuram did not score.
Inter Milan had the opportunity to overturn the standings and dislodge Naples from first place in Serie A on Sunday, during the 12th day. Simone Inzaghi's players missed the boat and are even in 4th place after sharing the points (1-1) at Giuseppe Meazza.
Naples retained the lead thanks to Scott McTominay's opener from close range on a serve from Rrahmani (0-1, 23rd), but also thanks to Hakan Calhanoglu's missed penalty on Meret's left post in the second half .
Calhanoglu's jewel
Before this miss which could have allowed Inter to take back the reins of the championship, the Nerazzurri had still managed to equalize with a masterpiece from the same Calhanoglu. Not attacked from more than 20 meters after a good oriented control, the former AC Milan attacking midfielder sent a laser under the bar of the Neapolitan goalkeeper just before the break (1-1, 43rd).
Marcus Thuram and Benjamin Pavard both started for Inter and the former completed a fifth consecutive match without scoring. The Blues striker is in a bad situation which he hopes to get around soon, during the match against Israel at the Stade de France, or in a little less than two weeks in Serie A on the pitch of Hellas Verona.
