The German Alexander Zverev (2nd) and the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz (3rd) debut this Monday at the ATP Finalsthe tournament that brings together the eight best tennis players of the year and that has both of them as two of the great candidates.
In the first round, not before 10, Alcaraz will have his debut against the Norwegian Casper Ruud (6th)a rival who has been on a bad streak in recent months, but who should never be underestimated.
Alcaraz came to this tournament after a rare season, in which won two Grand Slams (Roland Garros and Wimbledon)but where he could not achieve consistency in the other tournaments.
An example that serves to explain this is his participation in the Masters 1000where it began with a title in Indian Wells but then failed to make it past the quarterfinals in any of them.
This meant that he could not fight the Italian Jannik Sinner for world No. 1 and even He fell to third place, after being surpassed in recent days by Zverev.
This is Alcaraz’s second participation in the ATP Finals, a tournament in which he reached the semifinals last year.
Later, no earlier than 4:30 p.m., it will be Zverev’s turnone of the most consistent players of the season, who will face the Russian Andrey Rublev (8th)who arrives at a very slow moment.
Zverev continues to lack authority in the Grand Slams, where he reached the final at Roland Garros and missed the title after being 2-1 in sets, but he won the Masters 1000 in Rome and Paris, which allowed him to surpass Alcaraz in the ATP ranking.
Zverev is in search of his third title at the ATP Finalsafter crowning himself as “Master” in 2018 y 2021.
