Rays of sunshine have been rare since the start of the month in Normandy. The duration of sunshine recorded in Cherbourg, but also Rouen and Alençon, testifies to a stubborn grayness.
Unsurprisingly, the sunshine statistics look bleak in the north of the country, and in Normandy in particular. Cherbourg-en-Cotentin was only allowed four minutes of sunshine during this first week of November.
This represents a 100% drop in sunshine compared to seasonal norms calculated over a period from 1991 to 2020.
Barely three hours in Alençon
For comparison, Rouen should not complain with 3h34 of sunshine. However, the drop compared to the average of the past 30 years is significant: -94%. It is the same order of magnitude inland with 2h52 of sunshine recorded in Alençon (-96%).
This grayness is explained by anticyclonic conditions, the absence of wind, a very high humidity level and lower temperatures than in summer.
And bad news: no lasting improvement is expected before next week.
