A shooting broke out during the night from Thursday to Friday in front of a restaurant in Poitiers during which five people were seriously injured, announced Bruno Retailleau, who linked these shootings to drug trafficking
The Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, described the shooting which preceded a brawl as “tipping point” in drug trafficking. “A shooting left five people injured last night. Tensions between groups broke out, requiring the intervention of the police and gendarmerie”indicated the Vienne prefecture during the night.
Less than 24 hours after the events, the public prosecutor, Cyril Lacombe, held a press conference to share the details, reports BFMTV. He clarified that “the police were notified at 10:46 p.m. of gunshots heard at Place Coimbra in Poitiers, near a kebab restaurant”.
Open investigation
The Poitiers public prosecutor's office opened a blatant investigation for attempted homicide after being informed of the events around 11:30 p.m. At that time, calm had already returned to the Couronneries district. “No damage has been reported, neither to businesses nor to parked vehicles, including those of the police”added the magistrate.
While the Minister of the Interior had mentioned the presence of “400 to 600 people”the prosecutor specified that the police confronted around sixty individuals. “This crowd showed a certain vehemence in its demands”he declared. Three tear gas grenades were used by the police to stabilize the situation.
A person actively sought
A person, whose identity is being confirmed, is actively sought following a search carried out in the morning. “The shooter recently participated in drug sales activities in the Couronneries district”specified Cyril Lacombe.
Regarding the victims, the prosecutor indicated that a minor, seriously injured in the head, is in absolute emergency with a life-threatening prognosis. The four other injured people, also born in 2008 or 2009, have minor injuries and their lives are not in danger.
