“It’s nice”, Dupont relishes his resounding return to the Top 14

For his highly anticipated return to the Top 14, scrum half Antoine Dupont scored a quick hat-trick against Clermont (48-14) on Saturday. A perfect reunion with Ernest-Wallon.

A hat-trick in 13 minutes. Just that. Two and a half months after his coronation at the Olympic Games with the Rugby 7s Blues, Antoine Dupont made a resounding return to the Top 14 pitches. With still the same enthusiasm.

“I came back with a lot of enthusiasm”

Coming into play in the 45th minute to a standing ovation at the Ernest-Wallon stadium on Saturday evening against Clermont, he didn’t really take long to find his feet again. He first scored the first of his three tries, by sneaking through the Clermont defense, before taking an inside delivery signed by winger Ange Capuozzo, then a long play at the foot of the Italian international. A boss-sized performance to allow Toulouse to outclass Clermont (48-14) and move up to second place in the ranking.

Not the type to pull the cover for himself, the scrum half (27 years old) preferred to play it modest after the meeting. “I really enjoyed the holidays, but every time I came to training, I wanted to get back on the pitch with my friends. I came back with a lot of enthusiasm. So start with a match like that with a lot of desire and movement, it’s a pleasure my hat-trick is anecdotal, Ange (Capuozzo) serves me perfectly twice,” he smiled at the Canal+ microphone.

“We see that on his first ball, he does not need 50 chances, he is an opportunist,” added Stade Toulouse assistant coach David Mélé at a press conference. “We know his qualities, we know what he can bring us. He’s a threat, he concentrates a lot of defenders.” Yes, the boss is back.
