More fatalistic than disappointed, the Clermont manager recognized Toulouse’s superiority this Saturday evening at Ernest-Wallon.
“When you only defend against Toulouse, it’s not easy, we knew that. We should have had better conquest, better retention of the ball. We come out with 19 faults, it’s complicated. Afterwards, I found us combative, courageous, strong, but today we are not at the level of Toulouse.
When their bench returned, and not just number 9, it made the difference and little by little we let go. We fought and the intensity was better than in Perpignan. We didn’t want to be stooges but we were too imprecise in conquest, close to the lines at important moments.
Our kicking game wasn’t precise either. Toulouse was a good Toulouse and we played with our means today. There was a big gap and this match won’t do us much good.
I hope we won’t bring back any injured people, that would be the good news of the day. There we are, we are going to prepare for the arrival of Vannes.”
