In France, Marine Le Pen continues her media offensive, denouncing a political trial. France Télévisions went to meet the inhabitants of Perpignan, a city in the hands of the RN and administered by Louis Aliot, also threatened with ineligibility.
For more than 30 years, Guy Albert has always voted Front National, then Rassemblement National (RN). The requisitions against Marine Le Pen, five years in prison and ineligibility with immediate effect, are according to him disproportionate. “There, this is the party they are putting in the air. (…) That still represents 11 million people in France“, he believes. For another voter, Bernard Tourné, the party is not in danger because “people won't change their minds“.
The mayor of Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales), Louis Aliot, also thinks that the RN will survive. In this case of embezzlement of public money, he risks his mandate. He denounces the partiality of the indictment. “There is no personal enrichment, we did not hit the cash register… For the same thing, Mr. Bayrou was acquitted“, he says. In the street, many voters want justice to happen.
