Depression Kirk. Seine-et- and Eure-et-Loir remain on red alert this Friday

This Thursday evening, the departments of Seine-et- and Eure-et-Loir remain on red alert for the risk of flooding, Météo announced in its latest forecast bulletin, at 10 p.m. These forecasts concern tonight as well as the day of Friday.

This red alert is synonymous with “risk of major flooding” with “direct threat” to the safety of people and property.

Flooded streets, closed schools, damaged homes: several dozen people were evacuated Thursday in Eure-et-Loir and Seine-et-Marne, departments placed on red flood alert after the intense rains due to the passage of the Kirk depression.

In Seine-et-Marne, the Grand Morin, a river placed on red alert, has reached a record level and is the cause of the floods relayed on X by meteorologist Guillaume Séchet.

Significant overflows

In Eure-et-Loir, on the upstream Loir placed on red alert, “significant overflows are underway in the Bonneval and Saint-Maur-sur-le-Loir sectors”, the specialized government site Vigicrues warned early in the afternoon.

In the evening, several streets of Bonneval, nicknamed the Venice of Beauce, were completely flooded and impassable to traffic, AFP journalists noted.

“We have a water level which has risen very, very sharply since we have exceeded the flood of 1961 and we have arrived at 10-12 cm from the flood of 1881, which was the reference flood in Bonneval”, explains the mayor, Eric Jubert, surprised by the extent of the flooding.

However, he believes that the worst is over because the decline began in the evening, “We have already lost a few centimeters. »

Four departments on orange alert

Furthermore, four departments are still placed on orange alert for “floods”. These are , Orne, Loir-et-cher and Aisne.

This Thursday, damage was also observed in -Atlantique, and in Vendée, where Kirk sometimes caused almost a month of precipitation to fall in a single day. The former hurricane passed over France during the day of Wednesday October 9, 2024 and brought very significant amounts of precipitation, causing a lot of damage.

Asked about the weather situation while he was traveling in (Vienna), Michel Barnier indicated that firefighters had carried out 3,700 interventions across France.

500 interventions in the region

In the Paris region, the precipitation caused nearly 500 interventions, mainly in flooded cellars and basements, and some in prestigious sites such as the National Assembly or the Musée des Armées in Les Invalides.

The electricity distribution network manager Enedis, for its part, indicated that there remained 20,000 customers without power on Thursday at 6 p.m., particularly in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques (7,400) and the (3,300).

Thursday, Minister Agnès Pannier-Runacher indicated that“after the time of emergency”, there would be “time for repair” and that an inspection mission would be launched “to provide feedback”.
