Jean-Yves Chapelet, mayor of Bagnols-sur-Cèze, expressed his deepest solidarity and unwavering support for the mayor of Cavaillon as well as all law enforcement, following the arson attack which targeted several police vehicles on the night of October 8 to 9. This heinous act constitutes a direct attack against those who work daily for the security and protection of our fellow citizens.
In a press release, Jean-Yves Chapelet forcefully reaffirmed the need to relentlessly harass dealers and hinder them as much as possible in their trafficking. The police forces carry out this mission with determination, despite the risks they run. Their work is essential to protect our neighborhoods and preserve republican order.
“Our police officers, by wearing the blue uniform, embody much more than a simple function. They carry within them the values of commitment, courage and service to the Republic. On the ground, they are the face of the Republic, the one that watches over, protects and defends every citizen. Wherever they are, there is the Republic,” declared Jean-Yves Chapelet.
To attack these committed women and men, as well as their equipment, is to attack the Republic itself. These acts have no place in a society respectful of the laws and democratic values that unite us.
Jean-Yves Chapelet also hoped that justice would be done quickly and firmly, so that the perpetrators of this act would be prosecuted and sentenced for their crime. “It is crucial that those responsible are identified and punished to send a clear message: attacks against law enforcement will not be tolerated,” he added.
