A CRS unit arrived this Wednesday evening in Cavaillon after the fire of four police vehicles in front of the police station.
The authorities are convinced that this is retaliation by drug traffickers, taking revenge for recent police actions against drug trafficking in the city.

Around 5 a.m. this Wednesday morning, four police cars, parked in front of the Cavaillon police station, were on fire. One of them explodes. Then, the flames spread to the facade, forcing the three police officers inside to evacuate the premises. No injuries were reported, but officials were in shock.
“They say to themselves: ‘I’m going to work in a police station to protect citizens. And in fact, they come and attack us in front of our house. We attack a state building with vehicles. They find themselves inside, caught in the flames. Of course they are terrified. They still do their job, but they are terrified.”recognizes Grégory Lorient, deputy departmental secretary of the Alliance Police nationale union.
Significant seizures
This attack occurs at a time when an anti-drug operation is being carried out in Cavaillon. This could be retaliation by drug traffickers, after significant seizures made in recent days by the police. “In recent weeks, fifteen kilos of cannabis, six kilos of cocaine, weapons, handguns, long weapons, 20,000 euros seized. So, these are major operations which have taken place one after the other, in a chain”underlines Emmanuel Desjars de Keranrouë, interdepartmental director of the Vaucluse police.
This fire also caused damage to a real estate agency next to the police station. “It’s not very pleasant. And it’s certainly three months during which we won’t be able to work”laments the manager. Like this merchant, the residents are stunned. Here, the incomprehension is total. “It’s a shock to see that it can happen like this”admits a young man. While a retiree believes that “it’s not a nice spectacle for Cavaillon and for all of us.”
From this Wednesday evening, the CRS 81, specialized in emergency situations, was deployed in the sensitive neighborhoods of Cavaillon. Police reinforcements are also expected.

Furthermore, an investigation was opened and entrusted to the Avignon public prosecutor’s office. “This is a crime, I remind you, which is punishable by 20 years in prison. Obviously, all means are being used to arrest the perpetrators of this offense as quickly as possible,” says Florence Galtier, the public prosecutor of Avignon.
