Ex-sailor Evi Van Acker ends up in hospital in Costa Rica with a serious infection: “But her condition is stable”
Evi Van Acker contracted a serious infection while on holiday in Costa Rica (Central America) and was admitted to hospital. The technical director of the sailing federation won Olympic bronze at the 2012 Olympic Games.
Evi Van Acker was on holiday in Costa Rica with her boyfriend Cedric Van Branteghem (CEO of the BOIC) when she became ill. 39-year-old Van Acker had suffered a serious infection and was admitted to hospital.
“Evi is currently receiving the best medical care, so that she can recover quickly,” Van Branteghem said via the BOIC. “Her medical condition is also stable now.”

Evi Van Acker is one of the most successful sailors in Belgian sporting history. She became European champion twice, stood on the World Cup podium three times and won the bronze medal at the London Olympic Games in 2012.
For several years now, she has been helping to shape the sailing federation as sports technical director of Wind & Watersport Vlaanderen.
