Freiburg’s negative streak against Bayern continues. At the sports club, which was largely harmless, the record champions earned a deserved three points with a confident performance in the 2-1 win.
Freiburg’s coach Julian Schuster rotated a lot compared to the 0:4 in Stuttgart: Atubolu guarded the goal again for Müller, before that Makengo (season starting eleven), Lienhart, Höfler, Dinkci and Höler came on for Ginter, Günter, Osterhage, Grifo and Adamu .
After the 3-0 loss at Feyenoord, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany had to do without Davies (muscle injury), Laimer, who was suspended in the league, and Upamecano (stricken). Dier, Guerreiro, Pavlovic, Sané and Gnabry played for this trio as well as Coman and Olise from the start. Kimmich moved back to the right-back position.
It was a slow start in Breisgau, which was extremely mild at 16 degrees. Speed and determination remained in short supply, both defensive lines stood securely. As expected, the Munich team had far more possession of the ball, but initially found no room for solutions against the tightly packed hosts.
Musiala hits the post – Kane dupes Lienhart
Musiala achieved this for the first time after a solo run (post, 13th) – and after the next strong individual performance by Kane, the record champions took the lead: After Dier’s pass, the goalgetter duped Lienhart and scored his 17th goal of the season from 14 meters (15th).
Goretzka has to go
The Bavarians nipped the already timid offensive game of the sports club in the bud and were therefore hardly challenged in the back row. In addition, the dominant Kompany team, from which Goretzka had to go out injured and was replaced by Stanisic (40th), let the ball and opponents run almost at will. However, the league leaders were mostly only in control mode and did not push into the final third with too much force – so there were no further scenes in the goal area on either side until the break.

Bayern increases after Atubolu’s mistake
Round two started in terms of personnel with Ginter for Rosenfelder and in terms of play like the first. At first hardly anything happened, then the record champions struck again: Atubolu didn’t look good in the aerial duel against Kim at the first post after Kimmich’s corner and it was already 2-0 for FCB (54th).
-Ginter stirs up hope
Gnabry should have followed up with goal number three, but missed clearly in a promising position (58th). So Schuster’s protégés stayed in the game and became a little more courageous: Höler had a first chance (65th) and set up for Röhl – Stanisic deflected for a corner (68th). After Doan’s cross, Kim lost the aerial duel against Ginter this time, the joker made it 1:2 (69th).
The goal gave the sports club a tailwind, new staff gave them more enthusiasm and at least some fire for the final phase. In the end, they couldn’t score more than one goal and there was no real chance to equalize against Bayern who defended well.
The Munich team celebrated a deserved victory in Freiburg and extended their strong series against the sports club (14 wins, four draws).

Freiburg has now lost three games in a row and travels to Bochum on the next matchday (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.). Bayern will face Slovan Bratislava in the premier class on Wednesday (9 p.m.) before Kiel awaits in the league on Saturday (3:30 p.m.).
