Luisa Stefani and Orlando Luz lose in the Australian Open 2025 tennis doubles
The early hours from Friday to Saturday, January 18th, weren’t just bad for Bia Haddad Maia. The Brazilians Orlando Luiz and Luisa Stefani lost in the second round of doubles in their respective genders at the 2025 Australian Open tennis.
Alongside the Frenchman Gregoire Jacq, Luz faced the pair formed by the Belgian Sander Gille and the Polish Jan Zielinski, seeded number 13 in the men’s competition. In two hours of confrontation, the Brazilian team lost 2 sets to 1 (partials of 7/6, 4/6 and 6/3).
After drawing 1-1, Orlando Luz and Gregoire Jacq managed to maintain service in the decisive set at 3-3. However, they took two breaks in the seventh and ninth gamesenough to see the rivals close the third set at 6/3 and the game at 2-1.
Luisa Stefani played the women’s doubles competition alongside North American Peyton Stearns. In the second round, they faced the French Kristina Mladenovic and the Chinese Zhang Shuai, seeds number 9, and were defeated by 2 sets to 0 (double 6/2) in an hour and 40 minutes of play.
-Despite the elastic score, the match was played – the first game it was decided in an incredible 13 minutes. However, a break in the room game put Mladenovic and Zhang up by three points in the first setenough to close at 6-2 with another break in the eighth.
In the second set the scenario was literally the same. A break in the fourth game allowed the rivals to take a 4-1 lead on the scoreboard with the confirmation of the service. Luisa and Stearns tried one last trick in the seventh game: in eight minutes, they tried a break to reduce the difference to 4/3, but were unsuccessful. Thus, the score ended with 6/2 again.
