League of Legends is no longer “pay-to-win” thanks to this patch

League of Legends is moving forward for 2025 with a seasonal system and regular patches already scheduled. No more room for doubt, everything is settled like paper and the changes made should energize the game, at least in theory, since in fact, the first changes rather made it chaotic in addition to creating controversy . But Riot Games has already taken matters into its own hands and is already tackling the problem. The new update, the first of this season 1 2025, should put almost everyone in agreement.

Big changes for League of Legends patch 25.S1.2

If there are two things that marked the launch of season 1 2025, it was the new gameplay elements that shook the game, particularly at low levels, but also and above all, the economic model for players free-to-play which had transformed into pay-to-fast or even for some into pay-to-win. The reason here was that blue essences, which allow you to buy characters for free, had become extremely rare, forcing you to play excessively and even with that, it would have taken several hundred hours to unlock all of the available champions, pushing then players towards the ease and purchase with real money.

Here too, Riot has changed everything by offering more blue essences to allow new players to build a nice collection a little more quickly.

More blue essences to get champions faster

First measure therefore, a net increase in blue essence rewards. Riot plans to double what you earn in the Act 2 Season Pass. With Act 1 already well underway, the changes will only be launched for the next pass, but a mission to fill the gap will be available from this update. Here's what the next rewards will look like:

  • Available from this patch:
    • A unique mission granting 4250 EB has been added to make up the difference with Act 1. (until the end of Act 1.)
    • The blue essences granted by the repeatable stages of the epilogue increase from 50 to 750 EB. (As of this patch.)
    • The amount of Account XP earned increases by 40%. (As of this patch.)
  • Available from act 2:
    • The last champion capsule in the pass is replaced by a glorious champion capsule. (From act 2.)
    • The total number of blue essences earned as rewards for tiers increases from 4750 to 9000. (From Act 2.)

A big, highly anticipated nerf to Feats of Strength and Atakhan

Other major new features of season 1 2025, the Feats of Strength. These are objectives to achieve which allow you to gain advantages in part. The problem is that instead of offering more dynamism, iThey had made the game totally chaotic at the start of the gameespecially at low elo. It was especially the first blood that was the problem since everyone was throwing themselves at each other from the start to bring down the feat. From now on, it will no longer take one but three champions killed to validate the feat.

Second objective that is much too strong, Atakhan, the new mythical creature which appears during the game and allows, here too, to gain statistical advantages, notably through Bloody Roses. Everything here is revised downwards since it is considered far too effective. The way Atakhan's form is chosen will change while Bloody Roses will be nerfed. The snowball effect should be slowed down.

One more Arcance champion in League of Legends

Highly anticipated since its announcement, the sublime Mel will arrive in League of Legends with patch 25.S1.2 . The Magician is intended to be played in the mid or bottom lane. It promises to drive players crazy at first. The reason? His kit which, on paper, risks doing very badly in addition to adding a new mechanic never before seen in League of Legends. Mel will indeed be the first champion to have the ability to block and return a spell, no matter what it is as long as it is a projectile. Grab from Blitzcrank, cage from Morgana, ultimate from Ezreal, everything goes. Fortunately, the cooldown is rather long. For the rest, Mel can execute his opponents passively, control them and inflict heavy damage in one hit with his ultimate.

Complete Mel Kit, Reflection of the Soul

  • Passive Skill – Incandescent Luminescence
    • Each time Mel uses a skill, she gains three bonus projectiles for her next attack, up to a maximum of nine projectiles. When Mel deals damage with a skill or attack, she applies Overwhelm, which stacks damage to eliminate her enemy. If it has enough cumulative damage when it hits an enemy, cumulative damage is used to execute the target
  • A – Radiant Salve
    • Mel fires a burst of projectiles that explode over an area, dealing repeated damage to enemies there.
  • Z – Rebuttal
    • Mel gains movement speed, creates a barrier around it that reflects enemy skill towards the one who threw it to protect it from damage.
  • E – Solar trap
    • Mel fires a radiant orb, pinning enemies in the center while dealing damage over time and slowing enemies in the area around the orb's impact.
  • R – Golden eclipse
    • Mel hits all enemies marked by Overwhelm, regardless of their distance. At the same time, it inflicts additional damage for each cumulative Overwhelm effect. The higher the level of the Golden Eclipse skill, the greater the damage from Overwhelm.

Balancing, skins and more…

Of course, a ton of balancing is also involved and nearly ten characters are affected. Tahm Kench, Irelia and even Cassiopeia are all nerfedwhileEvelyne, Kayn or even Master Yi, on the contrary, are entitled to several buffs. New skins are also expected as well as reworks on several objects in the game. You can find all the details of the patch and more directly from the official website.
