The mayor of Toulouse Jean-Luc Moudenc banned a conference of the feminist and identity collective Némésis, following damage committed by far-left activists on the building where it was to be held.
The mayor of Toulouse Jean-Luc Moudenc announced this Thursday afternoon on the Citizen Initiative association. This conference by the collective's spokesperson, Alice Cordier, was, according to its organizers, expected to bring together 200 people and was scheduled for this Thursday evening at the Maison Toulouse Services de la Roseraie.
However, it is not the content of the conference or the positions taken by Nemesis that Jean-Luc Moudenc invokes in his message on acts of degradation. We can notably read among these inscriptions, of which the mayor publishes photos, “no neighborhood for faf”. “A revolting and unbearable attack against the local public services of Toulouse residents”protests Jean-Luc Moudenc, according to whom this «trouble» has been “organized and claimed by far-left activists”. The mayor mentions in particular “the presence of excrement in their workplace”and announces to file a complaint, regretting the “terror of extremes”.
“The announcement of the conference arouses numerous reactions, raising fears of radical counter-demonstrations and clashes”relates the municipal order prohibiting meetings. In addition to the damage, anonymous calls announcing disturbances to public order were made to the local town hall and calls for mobilization were launched on social networks. “by the Antifa movement and other far-left movements”according to the words of the decree.
