13 nominations for “Emilia Pérez” by Jacques Audiard, “The Substance” by Coralie Fargeat in the running for best film

The two French films are also in the running in the best director category. Jacques Audiard's musical comedy even becomes the most nominated non-English film in history.

A great vintage for French cinema. The Academy of Oscars announced, Thursday, January 23, the nominations for the 97th edition of the ceremony, which will take place on March 2 in Los Angeles. It's the French film Emilia Perezby Jacques Audiard, which leads the way with 13 nominations, becoming the most nominated non-English film of all time.

This musical odyssey, mainly in Spanish, about the gender transition of a Mexican drug trafficker does better Tigers and Dragons (2000) et Roma (2018), which previously held the record with 10 nominations.

Jacques Audiard's film is nominated among others for the Oscar for best film, for which it will notably face another French film, The Substance by Coralie Fargeat. The latter, like Jacques Audiard, is nominated in the best director category. The main performers of the two films will also face each other for the award for best actress, Demi Moore for The Substance and Karla Sofia Gascon for Emilia Perez.

Jacques Audiard's musical, already rewarded at and the Golden Globes, is also in the running for best actress in a supporting role or for best music and for best song, with two titles, The Evil et My Way.
