Milan, owned by former Sporting Rafael Leão, faced Girona yesterday, in the seventh round of the Champions League. The player trained in the green and whites was highlighted in the Italian team, scoring the winning goal and winning the man of the match award – but even that was not enough to convince the Portuguese coach Sérgio Conceição, who, at the end of the game, asked the Portuguese international for “more”.
“The boys gave a lot in terms of spirit. Rafael scored the goal and I ask him to do more, not just with the ball. He accepts that, works hard and sets an example. A team has to think the same way during the different phases of the game”, said the Portuguese coach about the winger’s performance.
The former Porto coach also commented on the match: “We are in the evolution phase and we have to keep working. There are things we are doing well and many others that are not yet well, but the most important thing is the result. We created opportunities, especially in the first half, to score more goals and they also had opportunities. In the second half, the fear of conceding a goal overcame the desire to score a second, but that is normal at this stage”, he explained, speaking to the press at the end of the game.
Rafael Leão also left some words after the match. The winger trained at Sporting – who had already been decisive against Como – life was not going to be easy with Paulo Fonseca at the helm of Milanbut is finding new life with Sérgio Conceição. To compare the two, he said the following:
-“They are different coaches, but the mentality is different now, we always have to be on the ball. When she arrived, Conceição immediately approached me and didn’t let me give up, she did this with everyone from the beginning. Today, in the second half, we didn’t score goals, but we remained united in defense”, said Rafael Leão, speaking to Prime Video.
