Wrexham are gearing up to face Birmingham City on Thursday night with Ben Foaster no doubt feeling a little torn.
Wrexham are looking for a much better result this Thursday evening than last week.
The 2-1 defeat at Shrewsbury Town was a major disappointment for Wrexham with Phil Parkinson’s side simply failing to turn up.
Playing two Thursdays in a row is a strange situation but Wrexham really need to hit back at home.
League leaders Birmingham City are in town, meaning Parkinson’s exceptional home record at Wrexham will be tested.
Wrexham took the lead at Birmingham back in September but faded and ended up losing 3-1 with Parkinson now looking for revenge.
Ben Foster on Wrexham v Birmingham City
One man with a foot in both camps is Ben Foster.
The former goalkeeper joined Wrexham on loan from Stoke City back in 2005 before returning to the club in 2023.
Foster played for Birmingham in the 2010-11 season before spending the following campaign on loan at West Bromwich Albion.
Now retired, Foster has been asked for his verdict on Wrexham’s clash with Birmingham on The Football Fill-In Extra.
Foster noted that both Wrexham and Birmingham have special places in his heart having loved playing for both clubs.
Foster noted that Wrexham’s home form could cause problems for Birmingham, claiming that fans have been frustrated with their attacking play of late.
Wrexham need the points more in Foster’s eyes, believing that Birmingham will coast home to the League One title.
“I just think Wrexham’s home form… Birmingham struggle to score goals, I know a lot of Birmingham fans and they all moan about the fact that they can’t score goals, they can’t put the chances away,” said Foster.
-“That Wrexham crowd counts for a lot you know but I’ve got to sit on the fence because Birmingham have got an unbelievably special place in my heart, Wrexham have got an unbelievably special place in my heart, I just hope both of them end up getting promoted – automatically as well.
“I think Birmingham are going to run away with the league anyway, so three points for Wrexham will be more welcome for them because I want them to get second,” he added.
Birmingham City boss on Wrexham atmosphere
This is a big game and celebrity involvement is huge.
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have helped Wrexham advance rapidly as a club whilst NFL legend Tom Brady is now involved at Birmingham City.
McElhenney and Brady were at each other last time but the build-up to this game has been a little quieter from a Hollywood perspective.
Birmingham boss Chris Davies has now told BBC Sport that he believes Wrexham are ‘on the crest of a wave’ thanks to McElhenney and Reynolds.
Davies noted that there is a ‘good atmosphere’ at Wrexham but Birmingham are used to loud surroundings from home games.
“You can see when you watch their games that they have a good atmosphere,” said Davies. “They’re on the crest of a wave.
“But we put on a real show ourselves. We’re used to playing in big stadiums with a big atmosphere. We have that every game at our own stadium,” he added.
Wrexham fans will look to cheer Parkinson’s side on to yet another home win and an ideal response after losing at Shrewsbury.
