Feyenoord achieved on Wednesday evening what was previously seen as impossible. The Rotterdam team has qualified for the intermediate round of the Champions League by beating Bayern Munich. Financially a fantastic boost for the stadium club, which can again count on a nice profit premium and a bonus for reaching the intermediate round. In theory it is still possible that Feyenoord will qualify for the top eight. More about this later.
Thanks to the victory in the Champions League, Feyenoord can add an amount of 2.8 million euros to the club’s coffers. Reaching the intermediate round in any case will result in a prize of one million euros. This brings the total income from the current European campaign to 49.5 million euros. The new format of the Champions League appears to be a gold mine for Feyenoord. Never before has the stadium club received so much money for participating in a European tournament.
The total amount of 49.5 million euros is made up of various elements. The starting amount is 18.62 million euros. In addition, more than 19 million euros came from the so-called Value Pillar. Various websites also include the income from receipts in the calculation, but because various costs are deducted from this, it is difficult to estimate exactly what amount Feyenoord ultimately makes from ticket sales.
-When the gross income from receipts is also included in the overview, a total amount of 57.5 million euros from the Champions League can be discussed. All clubs also receive a bonus for their final position in the group stage: the number 36 receives one share worth 275,000 euros, while the leader receives 9.9 million euros (36 times 275,000 euros). For example, if Feyenoord finishes in twenty place, it will receive a bonus of five million euros. If the intermediate round is survived, another eleven million euros will be added.
