Who is Ben Shelton

Ben Shelton he imposed himself on the blue Lorenzo Sonego in four sets with the score of 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) in 3 hours and 50 minutes of battle which ended only in the tie-break of the fourth match. For the American it is the second semi-final in a Slam tournament.

There are five precedents between Sinner and Shelton, with the world number one ahead 4-1 in the direct comparisons: at Slam level they have already met in the round of 16 of Wimbledon last year and it was the blue who prevailed in three sets.

Born in 2002, Ben Shelton is a 22-year-old American tennis player born in Atlanta (Georgia). In singles, he reached the semi-final of the 2023 US Open in his career (becoming the 3rd Under 21 player in the Open era to play the first career ATP semi-final in a Slam after Gustavo Kuerten and Wayne Ferreira) and the quarter-finals of the 2023 Australian Open. In the same year he won the ATP 500 in Tokyo and three tournaments on the ATP Challenger Tour.

To date he is 20th in the world ranking, far behind Jannik. A well-built athlete (193 centimeters) he already boasts an important curriculum also in terms of tournaments played and is already considered the star of American tennis. Its climb to the top 20 has been rapid and the margins for growth are still very high.
