If you regularly eat fish, watch your intake, as tuna steaks are subject to a product recall.

Tuna is an oily fish that is easy to cook in various ways. You can crumble it to put it in a light salad, ideal for a January detox or even in a pie for a quick weekday meal.

But like all fish, tuna is sometimes contaminated. This is why if you have recently purchased tuna steaks, be careful, as they could represent a risk to your health.

Tuna pieces recalled on RappelConso

The government website Rappel Conso published this Tuesday January 21 an alert to recall pieces of fish marketed by the brand Mericq. More precisely, it was about vacuum-packed fresh albacore tuna steaks.

The tuna was sold between 01/14/2025 and 01/21/2025 in different brands: Boucheries André, Franprix, Monoprix and Intermarché.

Stores throughout are affected by this recall, so remember to check your packaging carefully before consuming tuna this week, or choose canned tuna instead.

The risks involved

If these tuna steaks are the subject of a product recall, it is because they contain high histamine levels. Histamine is a toxin dangerous to health and which we find in fish, cold meats, cheese and even alcoholic drinks.

If you consume this substance, you may experience allergic symptoms such as facial swelling, redness, headaches and even difficulty breathing in the most serious cases.

These symptoms usually appear only 30 minutes after consumption of the product and can have significant consequences.
