26 departments of the country are placed on yellow alert by Météo France, this Wednesday January 22, 2025. What to expect in France?
Three patterns
The alert is triggered for three reasons: snow, avalanches and floods. It concerns the territories mainly located in the east of the country, but still going to Pas-de-Calais and extending south to Corsica. This is the first phenomenon, that of snow-icewhich is most widely in force.

Freezing rain?
In its bulletin, Météo France warns that a risk of “light freezing precipitation“is to be expected “from Hauts-de-France to the Grand-Est and to the east of Burgundy-Franche-Comté”. Already present at the end of the night, this threat still remains.”in the morning of Wednesday, before a rapid warm spell“.
Occitanie spared
According to the first bulletin from forecasters, Occitanie is therefore spared from vigilance. This does not, however, indicate that the day will be radiant: clouds should prevail massively during the afternoon, with maximums crossing the 10°C mark across the entire region. A few showers are also expected on the Hautes-Pyrénées and Gard side.
