Massive cyberattack on Swiss banks and municipalities

Many Swiss websites were paralyzed this Tuesday morning, clearly victims of a cyberattack described as massive. These are mainly banks or municipalities.

Our colleagues from “20 minutesn” cite the Banque cantonale vaudoise and the Banque cantonale Zurich. Lucerne, Kriens, Adligenswil: the sites of several German-speaking municipalities are also inaccessible.

A group of hackers believed to be pro-Russia, NoName057(16), claimed responsibility for these attacks. Switzerland was reportedly targeted for its support of Ukraine.

This would be a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack. Which means the intended target is overloaded but would not involve data theft.
