Weidel wants super-rich people in politics

AfD leader Alice Weidel is in favor of an unusual government approach: She wants to integrate super-rich people like Peter Thiel or Theo Müller into German politics.

The most important thing in brief

  • Alice Weidel calls for more economic experts in the government and cites entrepreneurs like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel as examples.

  • In doing so, she advocates a similar approach to that in the USA – where tech billionaire Elon Musk will help to cut US government spending in the future.

  • The AfD has high expectations of Donald Trump’s second term in office and praises him as a peacemaker.

AfD leader Alice Weidel spoke out in the RTL “Candidate Check” in favor of integrating the super-rich into the German government – similar to tech billionaire Elon Musk in the USA.

She explained on the show: “I believe that it would be good for the political process if significantly more people with economic policy expertise and, above all, successful entrepreneurs brought in their expertise so that there is a significantly better economic policy orientation, which is urgently needed.”

Weidel emphasized that she could “very, very” imagine entrepreneurs like Elon Musk, Paypal founder Peter Thiel or the German dairy entrepreneur Theo Müller in a government role. In an interview with the NZZ, Müller described Weidel as “a friend” and mentioned that she visited him often.

AfD hopes for Trump

The AfD looks forward to US President Donald Trump’s second term in office with positive expectations. Alice Weidel praised Trump for not starting a war during his first presidency. “And above all, he brought peace in Ukraine and also in the Middle East into his election campaign. He was the only one,” said Weidel.

And accordingly, we naturally have new and high hopes for Donald Trump’s presidency.

On Platform X, she congratulated Trump and wished him and the Americans “good luck and God’s blessing” in English.

Weidel makes no secret of her support for Donald Trump. Even before she was appointed candidate for chancellor, she said that she had kept her fingers crossed for him before the election.

Although the AfD has also attracted attention in the past for its anti-American rhetoric, Weidel emphasized with a smile after the election: “It wasn’t woke Hollywood that won the election, but the working people.”
