ATLANTA – The extremely cold weather and the possibility of a wintry mix or snow in Georgia on Tuesday will result in many businesses and school districts announcing delays or closures.
Zoo Atlanta delayed its opening on Monday and is advising potential visitors to check its website for updates regarding Tuesday.

The Atlanta Botanical Garden has already decided to close both its Midtown Atlanta and Gainesville locations on Tuesday because of the threat of inclement weather.
The Georgia Department of Transportation has also announced a temporary road closure on State Route 180 Spur in Towns County, due to anticipated severe winter conditions. The closure will begin today and remain in effect until further notice. Snow, ice, and freezing rain are forecaster for the area, according to GDOT.
GDOT is urging drivers to avoid non-essential travel in the affected areas during winter weather events. Updates on road conditions and closures can be found at www.dot.ga.gov or their social media channels.
The FOX 5 Storm Team declared Tuesday a Storm Alert Day late last week.
-The biggest uncertainty remains how far north the precipitation will reach. Currently, metro Atlanta sits near the edge of the system, with northwest Georgia possibly being left out. It’s important to note that not everyone will see snow.

Accumulation amounts are expected to range from zero to a couple of inches, with higher totals south of Interstate 20 and into middle Georgia. Snowfall is expected to end early Wednesday morning.

One certainty is the cold temperatures. While Tuesday morning won’t be quite as cold as Monday morning, lows will still drop into the low 20s.
