Former American Idol star Carrie Underwood has been back in the spotlight recently, as she is set to perform America the Beautiful on the steps of the US Capitol shortly before Donald Trump is sworn in as president.

She will take the stage after Vice President-elect JD Vance takes his Oath of Office and before Trump takes the Presidential Oath of Office.

Speaking about being given the opportunity to sing at such a historic day, the 41-year-old country singer said: “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event.

“I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

Since being crowned the winner of American Idol, Carrie’s music career has flourished. She became one of the best-selling artists of all time while winning three Grammy Awards – amassing an estimated net worth of $120 million (approximately £98 million).

For her work on the talent show alone, she reportedly made hundreds of thousands. In 2007, NBC reported that contestants get paid once they reach the Top 12, and the finalists are paid $921 (£756) each week for every hour-long episode.

As she won the competition, the vocalist received a recording contract with Hollywood Records, a label owned by Disney. She got $125,000 when she began working on her first album, an advance budget to be paid off later, and $125,000 when the album was completed.

The Before She Cheats singer invested her hard work into building a 400-acre farm home for her family in Tennessee while still making music.

She lives in the exansive home with her husband Mike Fisher, and their sons Isaiah and Jacob. Speaking about what it was like welcoming two children into the world, the superstar told People: “I remember when we first found out we were gonna have [Isaiah]it was like, ‘How are we gonna do this? Our lives are so crazy as it is.”

“But you just make room, and you learn how important that family time is, and to be able to spend time and carve out some of that and maybe get to go on vacation and maybe get to go on a cruise — that stuff is so important to, like I said, make time for family. That’s what it’s all about,” she continued.

Carrie insists behind closed doors they’re like any other family. She said: “I love that our house is a mess and there’s toys everywhere. I’m constantly trying to make it not a mess, but it is and that’s OK. I love that my life isn’t so glamorous.”

She added: “I give motherhood my all. I give entertaining my all. Hopefully everything will be OK and so far it has been. We are figuring it out as we go.”
